Awww, lookie it's a widdle bunny in the top of a coffee!
Isn't the web awesome. You type in "Easter Coffee" and you get a ton of images like this, which comes from Imagespark. So thanks, Imagespark. It was either that or a cat with bunny ears, but you know that whole cat thing really has to stop... really. Poor cats.
So what are we trying to say? Well folks, it's EASTER time, which means we will be closed this Friday 6 April and Monday 9 April.
So just a heads up really, if you need coffee you need to plan ahead - so stock up, bring in your tins etc. and we'll gladly fill them with anything from Krank through to one of our amazing single origins. Righto, back to figuring out how our new POS sale works, whilst Matt rips up biscotti in the kitchen and Rod keeps roasting in the house that coffee built!

Cuban Back In Stock and Update |
|
Tuesday, 28 February 2012 |

Hello good people of Christchurch and beyond, hope the week is treating you all well. What a difference a touch of sun makes as we look back fondly on the fantastic Great Kiwi Beer Festival Team C4 enjoyed in the weekend, and as we share the good news that we're roasting Cuban again as I'm typing here on this interweb machine... so by about 2pm you'll be able to savour that taste of one of our most in demand, show stealing single origins.
What else? We had the Barista Champ roadshow roll into town yesterday for a full day of training and orientation prior to Wellington's showdown 23-25 March. We wish everyone the best of luck as they compete for the right to represent NZ in Vienna at the World Champs.
Apart from that just Kranking along, making some of the best coffee and probably the best biscotti you'll find from 8.30 through 4pm Monday through Friday. Now that Madras is open to Tuam it's even easier to pop in and say hello so what are you waiting for?
Oh, that's right, waiting for 2pm and Cuban being back in stock! See you soon!

Madras Open and NZCRA Barista Champs |
|
Thursday, 16 February 2012 |

Well I won't even begin to discuss what progress actually means in post-quake Christchurch, that's best left the letter writers to the Press, John Campbell and chaps and chapesses in HIGHVIZ™.
But I'm rather delighted to let you know that almost one year on, you can drive up Madras Street from Moorhouse Ave and turn RIGHT into Tuam to get to C4 Coffee. No more loops up Fitzgerald when you miss the turn, and all you lovely people south of the Brougham have a more direct route to the Roastery. That's got to be a good thing.
In other news the 2012 New Zealand Barista Champs are taking entries now. Visit the New Zealand Coffee Roasters Association website for more info. The line up is growing so should be a well contested event.
This year the comp is in Wellington - no regional heats. BUT there are regional workshops, and C4 is hosting the Christchurch one.

The official word is:
This workshop is essential preparation for the Huhtamaki New Zealand Barista Championship. It will assist both baristas & judges. You will learn more in this one day workshop than you ever could from working alone.
The day includes:
Coffee knowledge written test
WBC rules & regulations, sensory & technical scoresheets written test
Coffee quality presentation & tasting presented by Stuart Hargie, NZ's only certified Q grader, Stuart was on the sensory panel of both 2010 & 2011 World Barista Championship finals
Technical presentation & practical run through presented by David Green, WBC Certified technical judge, David judged at the semi-finals of the 2011 World Barista Championship
Sensory presentation & practical run through presented by Jessica Godfrey, WBC Certified sensory judge, Jessica judged the final of the World Barista Championship 2010
Places are limited to thirty per venue.
C4's workshop is on Monday 27 February and tickets are available here.
Well that's all the news that's fit to print at the moment. We're just doing what we do best, roasting beans and making fine coffee for you lovely people. Hope to see you soon at the home of coffee! |

Superbowl Monday 6 Feb - We're Closed! |
|
Monday, 30 January 2012 |

Happy New Year to you all, we've been heads down and where has January gone? A flurry of roasting, brewing, extracting, serving Amanda Palmer from the Dresden Dolls coffees (Thom says thanks for the tickets and loved the show!), and even having a cupping session with New Zealand's Champion Brewer Søren Eriksen as he works his way through the world of single origin coffee and craft beer.
Told you it was busy!
So much so that we've decided it's time for a holiday so we will be closed THIS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6 so we can all watch the Superbowl. Except for Lisa who will be at a wedding. But they may play the Superbowl there too, because, let's face it, it's the biggest show on earth. Companies make their biggest, bestest, most expensive ads just for the halftime show, just like Volkswagen's dogs barking the Imperial March from Star Wars. Honestly.
What does this mean for you, good people of Christchurch and beyond? Well you need to ensure you have enough coffee for Superbowl Monday, which being an American sport goes for ages and ages... trust us, get an extra 100 grams just to be safe.
We will be open again on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7 to celebrate the Pat's upset victory against the Giants. GO TOM BRADY!
