Fairtrade coffee - we're doing it
Saturday, 12 June 2004

Fairtrade coffee - we're doing it, Fairtrade coffee! Just, a blend of the best Fairtrade certified coffee that we could find. A medium roast pre-blend of beans from Colombia, PNG, Indonesia, Ethiopea, and East Timor. A full bodied, beter than fair coffee. Justice... ask for Fairtrade.

Fairtrade protects coffee producers in the developing world from the volatile world of the global market by guaranteeing a minimum price of $US1.21 per pound of Arabica beans. In the first two weeks of May, 2006 the average non-fairtrade price hovered around $US0.89 per pound.

The International Fairtrade Labelling Organisation certifies each link in the chain. From grower to importer to wholesaler to retailer - to ensure transperency between the producer and the consumer. Importers must pay the price; producers must reinvest the premiums they receive in their people and their land and production cannot involve exploitive practices, such as child labour.
